Fold Formed Copper Jewelry

John S. Brana's handmade copper jewelry collections include a selection of fold-formed copper jewelry items, including rings, necklaces and earrings.

Fold-forming is a technique that's used to create a wide array of organic, textured forms that are inspired by nature's many unique shapes and forms such as leaves, lily pads and snails.

The art of fold-forming copper jewelry is a time-consuming, labor-intensive process that entails folding and forming sheets of copper, which are then forged and shaped further. Metalworking artists like John S. Brana can create a number of different effects, such as geometric lines and shapes, a crimped effect, a cross hatch-like appearance and a corrugated, ridged texture that's characteristic of forms that are found in nature in objects such as leaves. Some pieces are accented with stones such as Brazilian Fire Agate for a bit of extra glimmer and shimmer.

This metalworking technique was pioneered by Charles Lewton-Brain in the 1980s, forever transforming the art of shaping metal for jewelry, decorative items and beyond.

John S. Brana's handmade fold-formed copper collection of jewelry includes a number of pieces that are formed using multiple metalworking techniques such as patination, which creates a colorful patina on the copper jewelry, along with anticlastic formed jewelry.
